Product Haul!

Hey guys!

What’s good?

Today I want to talk about hair products. What’s your approach to buying your own? With a little spare change, I easily give in to an impulsive buy here and there- and it’s really hard for me to resist a really good bargain, but generally, I like to plan my hair purchases.

The last time I shared my stash was in January. I recently re-upped my arsenal, and since I get asked now and then about what I’m using, I decided to share my new stash. These are the things I will be using for the next say, six months- or even longer.

Not trying to fix what isn’t broken, I’ve restocked on my staples, but I’m still trying a number of new stuff. Here goes-

1. Deep Conditioners

The Nothing But Intense Healing Mask is a firm staple, and the other two are new to me. I’m really curious about the Aussie claims. 3 times the moisture in 3 Minutes, really?! Because she’s so nice, Nibi of The Kinky Apothecary sent me the Shea Moisture masque. πŸ™‚ It’s one of her faves. I’m hoping my hair likes it as much as her hair does.

2. Instant/ Rinse-out Conditioners

DSC09455

1L of my beloved Hello Hydration, and as it’s a moisturising conditioner, I decided to try the Honey, I’m Strong condish too, also from Herbal Essences. Don’t you just love the names of Herbal Essences conditioners? It’s supposed to be a strengthening conditioner. I’m curious to see how different they are, especially because they have a lot of ingredients in common. So far, I’ve used Honey, I’m Strong to dry detangle once, and it was amazeballs!

3. Leave-In Conditioner

The Cantu Shea Butter Leave-In Conditioning Repair Cream remains one of my staples, but I decided to go with the Argan Oil version this time. So much ado about Argan Oil on the internets, I figured I’d try something with the wonder oil. The ingredient list reads similar to the Shea Butter one, and so far, so good. I’ll let you guys know eventually, my thoughts on this leave-in.

4. Stylers

Everything here is new to me. I got the Shea Moisture mousse because MeeMee loves it so much. I think I remember Kesia of Island Kynks giving the Burnt Sugar Pomade a really good review. The Obia Curl Enhancing Custard was gifted to me by the Kinky Apothecary, and I got the Aunt Jackie’s simply because I wanted to try something from the line, and because I think the Aunt Jackie’s labels are so pretty.

Oh. And EcoStyler Gel. This time, I got the Green Tub (with Olive Oil). I’ve tried the Pink tub, and I can’t say much for its hold. Let’s see how thisΒ one does.

I broke the tub today. Dropped it and it split right through the middle lol, need to find a new container for this

5. Shampoo

Shamperssss!

Shampersssss! In this category, I have just one, the L’Oreal Ever Creme Sulfate Free Moisture System Nourishing Shampoo. A mouthful, I know! It’s almost out (left over from my January stash), I don’t know why I didn’t think to replace it. I’ll need to buy it again soon.

So, in addition to shampoo, I’ll have to buy leave-in in a bit, but I think I’m kind of sorted. I can shut my eyes now, and not be so tempted to buy hair things. LOL, right.

I really want to get the Curls Blueberry Bliss Curl Control Paste, from The Kinky Apothecary. My ORS Edge Control will expire in three months, and I’ve been seeing beautiful results on Instagram, achieved with this product. That’s the exception to the ban.

On my wishlist now though, are tools and the organic stuff. Flexi rods, perm rods, a latch hook, bentonite clay, henna, Aloe vera juice, JBCO… I’ll be buying these here. Between my bestie and my sister, I arranged for my hair products- although, considering what it cost to ship last minute between two cities in the same USA, I should just have spent that money instead in our economy.

Have you tried any of these products? What have you got lately?

Keep your eyes on the blog, and on Instagram. We’re collaborating with a Nigerian store to give away two of my staple products! Not telling you which! πŸ˜‰

Love,

AB,

xx

  1. First of all AB I want your books 😐
Great stash. Sorry about your ecostyler gel. I have the Argan oil one that I use for my edges (when I remember).
Last thing I bought for my hair/skin was sunflower oil.

  2. I actually forced myself to concentrate on the products in the picture and not the books. I want that John Grisham!!! Yet to read it … Its not like i’ve read half of his books even. Currently Concentrating on Agatha Christie.

Not tried any of these products and I wonder why! ok i know… no time and budgeting! lol. Where can 1 find them in lagos abeg? Esp the Herbal Essence condish!

  3. I’ve only tried Olive oil ecostyler gel. At first I hated it cos I was trying to use it to “define my curls” but I now love it for sleek, laid down looks. I’ve however tried the Cantu in Shea butter and the Herbal Essences in Ignite My Color. Last thing I bought for my hair was Silverbird Eucalyptus oil out of curiousity. (Did you say giveaway?! Yagaaa!! I hope it’s Hello Hydration and Nothing But)

  4. Hey! I have found that the Cantu Shea Butter caused flakiness, so please update on the Argon Oil, because I love the product for what it does for me as far as detangling is concerned!! Also, where can I get the Shea Moisture line?? I’m looking for the Extra Moisture Detangler!
    Thanks!

  5. I love me some hello hydration! It’s my staple although its strong scent is beginning to get to me for some reason. I don’t find the big sizes around tho, just the 200ml bottle. Where did you get yours?

I also have the obia curl custard but I’m yet to try it out. My ORS edge control just sits on my shelf. Not that it’s no good but i guess my stash is just growing continuously. I don’t even know howπŸ˜•

  6. Nice haul! I’ve tried Hello Hydration but that was ages ago when I had natural hair. I was trying everything under the sun then. I also tried the ECO styler gel and it wasn’t very good. πŸ™ I had to give it away at a product swap. Hopefully, you will have better luck. The last thing I bought for my hair was coconut oil.

I’m jealous of your library. πŸ™‚

    Don’t Touch The Hair

  7. Holy Smokes! That’s a whole lot of haul and I want want want :(. Did you get them all in Naija? If so where? I need me some Herbal Essence Hello Hydration Conditioner, the L’Oreal Evercream sulfate free moisture system, Herbal Essence Honey I’m strong, and Aussie 3 minute miracle moist. Do you know if I can get them here? Please please help a sister out :(.

      1. Calabar ke? Lol. that is way waaaaay out of my way. Will figure something out. Oh, and I figured I should share the big news. I big chopped this afternoon. Yup. After almost 11 months of transitioning, I picked up my hair shears and started snipping away. There goes my big mouth boasting that I was going to transition for 30 months. Chai! See my life? πŸ™

      2. :D. Thanks. I tried out my first ever wash and go after the chop. I don’t think it turned out exactly the way I planned. Lol. But it still looked good, and I rocked it. Even did a blog post on it. Trying out a twist out for work tomorrow. Let’s see how it turns out :).

  8. Nice stash you have here. I have used many of them too. Hello hydratio, 3 minute miracle and Shea moisture black soap masque are great for co-washing. I am also curious to see how the argan oil version compares with the original Cantu leave-in.
