I got this at Christmas, through the bestie.

Ingredients:

Aqua (Water), Cetereth-25, PEG-7 Glyceryl Cocoate, Propylene Glycol, PEG-7 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Glycerin, Cocodimonium Hydroxypropyl, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Parfum (Fragrance), Benzyl Benzoate, Citronellol, d-Limonene, Eugenol, Geranol, Hexyl Cinnamal, Lilial, Linalool, Methyl Ionone, Diazolidynyl Urea, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, DMDM Hydantoin.

Worth noting: water is the first ingredient. It has humectants- Propylene Glycol, Glycerin, and a moisturiser- Aloe Vera Juice.

It also has PARABENS.

Claims: “Superior hold and shine”

Directions: Apply to desired area and smooth with fingertips for desired hold.

MY EXPERIENCE

I have super kinky, tightly coiled 4C hair.

This Edge Control comes in a really small tub (2.25 oz), smells okay, and it’s a clear formula.

I’d write this product off as a total fail, if not for the fact that I used it twice in Abuja with success. The first time, it held my edges down and nicely laid on one not-so-hot afternoon. The second time around, I applied it hurriedly on a cold morning without looking and it was only a few hours later, after taking a selfie that I saw my edges firmly plastered to my head. LOL plastered as in, it was white and pasty. So this shows that it can work, it has hold, but there’s a very big BUT.

I don’t live in Abuja. My current city, Calabar is way more humid than Abuja. I check the weather app every other day, and most mornings, the humidity is in the 80s, and 90s, one day it was even 98%! Lagos is home and it’s super humid there as well. In an hour or two with this particular edge control, my kinky “no baby hair” edges are up again. And so my theory is, this gel is BAD for my kinky edges in really humid places. I did a little googling, and I came across a few people in forums saying it was shit in humidity as well. That’s hearsay, lesser evidence, so you don’t have to take that from me.

Beauty in Lagos gave it a good review though, but she’s relaxed so if your edges are relaxed, you could trust her own experience, over here.

On The Bright Side…

It isn’t all bad. There’s no flaking and even after the short-lived “hold” is gone, my edges stay moisturised.

Will I buy this again?

NO. This product has NO control over my stubborn edges in high humidity, and I live in very humid places.

Where to Find

Just because I’m not digging it doesn’t mean it’d be the same for you. It would not be a bad idea to try using this in a less humid place, or maybe during harmattan when the air is supposed to be dry, so I’m not throwing this out or giving it away just yet. If anything changes, I’ll update this post. 🙂

If you’re interested, I’ve seen this at:

  1. Perfect Trust Cosmetics, Abuja
  2. Rita’s Beauty Solutions, Calabar
  3. Enumex Cosmetics, Marian Road, Calabar
  4. Everyday Supermarket, Garki & Port Harcourt.

Contact deets for the Nigerian vendors are on the Where To Find page.

Have you tried this Edge Control from ORS? Where did you get it? How does it work for you?

Love,

AB,

xx

  1. yeah i used this for a while when i first went natural, i thought it was alright at first and then as time passed on i wasnt feeling. It made my edges a lil caky and white. I cant be walking round looking as if i only have dandruff in the front of my head…lol
I use creme of nature’s edge control, it works wonders, no complaints yet

  2. This has never kept my edges sleek. Just like you, it would work for a bit but by the end of the day, my curly edges have returned. I’ve just about given up the fight for sleek edges. Just let me have some on my head, abeg. 🙂

  3. I don’t own it personally, but the few times i have used my sister’s own, I would say its moisturizing just like you said…but it doesn’t “hold hold hold”..just keeps my edges in place, looking nice…lol..I don’t know if you get what I mean.By the way I stay in Lagos, so I can definitely relate!

    1. Hey Fidelia,
I do not have her personal number.
The shop is part of an artsy/ culture store called iToby’s Culture Mix and I understand that its being renovated, but you can still go in. If you ask people, you should be able to find it.

    2. What I do is apply little edge control by dabbing on the edges. Then brush in wt a small tooth comb. Lay flat wt a brush and wear my satin scarf for 10-15 minutes. I use Hydrating Sleek Edge control.

For the 1st comment, it’s #45 Evo road in GRA. Near Pathcare. I think she’s Ib. There’s a gate in front. Push it .
