I’ve been natural for over 5 years and I am JUST now getting into the joy of twist-outs. Imagine that! LOVED this twist and curl I did on dry hair with the SheaMoisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl Enhancing Smoothie. I even recorded a tutorial for you guys! 🙂
4 Sundays ago, we had our Meet & Greet in Lagos. This was a very special event for us, so of course I had to do something special with my hair!
My hair was freshly dyed– and also blown out, from my salon appointment 2 days before. With great pain in my heart, I loosened the lovely milkmaid flat twists Kemi had done for me, but better was coming.
For this look, I used the Curl Enhancing Smoothie from SheaMoisture’s Coconut & Hibiscus line. I was sent this Smoothie, as well as the Shampoo & Conditioner from the line. If you would like me to do a review of the Shampoo & Conditioner, let me know in the comments!
Back to the twist and curl.
The Twist & Curl is literally- twist your hair, then curl the ends. I twisted my dry, stretched hair with the Curl Enhancing Smoothie and curled the ends of the twists with little perm rods. Some people prefer to twist halfway and just use perm rods for the rest, but this is how I do mine.
For the remaining steps, watch this simple tutorial video to see everything.
Video is definitely something we will explore in 2018 so I’d really appreciate it if you watch, subscribe and leave a comment! 🙂
I prefer doing curly styles on dry hair for more volume and better-elongated curls. However, I think the wet/ damp twist-outs or curly styles are more defined and last longer. I’ll test this theory more and let you have my thesis when I’m done, haha.
This was such a fun style to wear, and I received lotsa compliments. My curls were bouncy and super soft. I didn’t expect my hair to be so soft in the harmattan but the Smoothie is moisturising as well as curl defining.
I used about a quarter of this little tube to style my hair so you can use this 4 times if you’re heavy handed like me, or less if you’ve mastered that magic that is dime-size product application.
So, what do you think? Are you a fan of the Twist & Curl? Or curly styles in general? Would you try this tutorial? Use the Curl Enhancing Smoothie? Let me know in the comments!
